As everyone from Maggie Gyllenhaal to Miranda Kerr steps out in the look, we chart summer's white-hot trend
As fully-grown women who are totally capable of not throwing coffee/beer/pizza all over ourselves, we’re treating this summer’s return of the all-white ensemble as a really good thing.
In some of the best blanc outfits we’ve seen since Prince George’s christening get-up, everyone from Miranda Kerr to Helen Mirren has been stepping out in all-white every-thang this week.
Sleek, cool and stand-out, there are plenty of places to work the look (Hi summer dinner parties and chic cocktail bars) but also a significantly longer list of places not to (around children, on the tube, operating machinery, doing handstands on a summery lawn, etc).
Not confident enough in your own table manners? Mix some grey or pastel colours into your palette to take the edge off a little, a’la Princess Beatrice and Lily Collins in the gallery above. And definitely keep the cuts sharp. Surely there can be no worse outcome from trialing this mini-trend than looking like a lost/jilted bride?
We’ve picked our four favourite looks from the week in the feature below and charted even more of the best all white outfits in the gallery above.
Miranda manages to wear print and do an all-white look – clever, right? She’s chosen a bold red lip to set off her silky separates by MaxMara.
Maggie teams her fit and flare LWD with deep berry accessories for a more polished effect that would work in grimmer Autumn weather too.
Pixie’s sharp Saint Laurent tuxedo shows that the all-white look isn’t only about pretty summer styles – it’s perfect for power-dressing too.
Karen’s look (by Australian label Ellery) puts a sharp, modern spin on the classic white shirt. We’re rather keen on the super-flattering flute skirt, too.
Leigh’s Max Mara camisole and crop trousers look seriously cool and perfectly showcase another of the all-white outfit’s greatest benefits – it makes you look beautifully bronzed.
Dame Helen pulls off the perfect summer lace dress by teaming it with popping colour sandals.
