Why the First Lady comes first for fashion diplomacy
Michelle Obama showed why she’s First Lady of fashion during a trip to the Vatican last week, sporting an outfit that was on-message in more ways than one.
Arriving in Rome to meet Pope Benedict XVI, Mrs O wore a perfectly diplomatic cocktail of American and Italian brands.
She managed to fly the flag for the American fashion industry with a black wool coat by US designer Michael Kors, while nodding to her Italian hosts with a black organza bow top, black skirt and a Sicilian-widow worthy black silk veil, all by quintessentially Italian brand Moschino.
Honestly, what did we fashion girls talk about before she came along?
