Michelle Obama dazzles at first black-tie dinner

Which designer did Michelle choose for first White House ball?

Michelle Obama absolutely dazzled at the first black-tie event of her husband, Barack Obama’s, presidency.

With her sensational sparkling gown and his dapper tuxedo, you would be forgiven for thinking that the power couple were heading to the Oscars, but on Sunday night they had a party of their very own to attend.

Around 130 guests were invited to the glitzy Governor’s Ball at the White House ahead of a summit to discuss America’s economic troubles.

For the important occasion, the First Lady chose a spectacular crystal-embellished charcoal strapless Peter Soronen autumn 2008 gown.

Peter Soronen is a Chicago-based designer and has dressed the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Longoria and Jennifer Hudson.

Michelle teamed the already eye-catching dress with a multiple-strand pearl necklace by Tom Binns.

Her outstanding red carpet-worthy style should definitely put some of the more underwhelming Oscar outfits to shame.
