David Beckham prompts surge in men's cardigan sales

The men's cardigan has seen a huge surge in sales, after being spotted on a host of stylish male celebs, such as David Beckham, Jude Law and Daniel Craig.

Although the garment has had a long running association with Grandad style, it has seen a fashion renaissance over the last year, with high street chain Asda reporting record sales.

The George at Asda label sold 226,000 men's cardigans throughout Britain in January alone, and has sold more in the last three months than in the previous three years.

Design director of George, Fiona Lambert commented on the trend, 'The cardigan is an exceptionally versatile piece of clothing. They look great with jeans, but when teamed with a suit, guys become the male equivalent of the sexy librarian.'

Cementing the cardigans appeal, the chain conducted a survey of 1000 shoppers, which found over 75% of women found men in cardigans attractive.
