Fashion designer Katharine Hamnett pulls her organic, fairtrade collection from Tesco
Fashion designer Katharine Hamnett is to pull her organic clothing line from Tesco.
The politically minded designer has questioned Tesco’s dedicated to the fairtrade line, complaining that limited distribution of her Choose Love collection, along with a failure to deliver some promised shop-in-shops, meant she would not renew her contract when it expires in November 2008.
Admitting she was ‘incredibly disappointed’ with Tesco, Hamnett told Drapers: ‘Tesco could have been the Marks & Spencer of organic cotton. But I’ve come to the conclusion that it simply wants to appear ethical, rather than make a full commitment to the range.’
