Karl Lagerfeld has definitely been diversifying recently, stepping away from haute couture for an upcoming make up range with ModelCo and now a capsule collection for Vans. It’s a bit of a stretch for a man who probably wouldn’t be caught dead on a skateboard, but we’re interested to see what it all looks like.

While neither brand have released sneak peeks of what the Lagerfeld-approved kicks look like, they did make a monochromatic announcement on their respective Instagram accounts. We’re going to go out on a limb and say that it’s probably a hint to what colour palette Lagerfeld’s going to be working with.

WWD broke the news and had a few more details. According to them, Vans’ ‘hallmark checkerboard pattern is revisted using a cameo motif depicting Lagerfeld’s iconic profile, with boucle fabric and a quilted letter K among other leitmotifs’.

The collection drops on September 7th and will be available online as well as in Karl Lagerfeld boutiques. It spans Vans’ signature slip-ons, clothing and even fashion accessories. There are expected to be six different footwear styles available and it isn’t entirely out of Lagerfeld’s wheelhouse, as his brand has produced a couple of plimsoll-style shoes like the ones below.

Beyond the shoes, we’re also particularly excited for a leather backpack - premium enough to take to work without looking like a secondary schooler. Other clothing items will include a graphic tee with the man himself decked out in a checkerboard tie, as well as a black and white raglan sleeve bomber.

The first time we’ll be able to lay eyes on the collection is a week away unfortunately, as it’ll be shown in its entirety at Bread & Butter’s tradeshow in Berlin. It’s probably worth setting an alert up for this though - prices range between USD$40 to $300 and we’re betting it’s going to go fast.
