Find out why the One Direction star has beaten the Duchess of Cambridge to Britain's style crown

Kate Middleton might be royalty, but there's one crown she's missing this morning – Britain's style crown. The Duchess of Cambridge has missed out on a British Fashion Award, to none other than Harry Styles. Kate was nominated for the British Style Award at last night's ceremony, but her wardrobe hits went unnoticed as the One Direction star was crowned most stylish by previous winner Alexa Chung, and Jack Guinness.

The fashion industry's biggest names including models, designers and celebrities rocked up the annual awards at the London Coliseum, where comedian Jack Whitehall announced the winners. Harry Styles was crowned above not only Kate Middleton, but also another British favourite, David Beckham, AND his rumoured on/off girlfriend, Cara Delevingne.

The British Style Award brought to us by Vodafone 'recognises an individual who most embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital'. It was the only accolade at the red carpet event that was voted for by members of the British public.

As the most photographed woman in the world, Kate Middleton's style makes headlines on a daily basis, with her every wardrobe choice picked up by the British press. She champions British designers, too, favouring Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham.

But it seems not everyone's a fan of her style.

Earlier this year, Vivienne Westwood was asked if she had any advice for the Duchess, saying: 'I don't have any advice for her, [although] I think it would be great if she wore the same clothes over and again, because that's very good for the environment and it would send out a very nice message. If you're going to all that trouble to get an outfit that suits you, then you should keep on wearing it.'

Harry told the audience at last night's event: 'This is very, very kind.'

Do you think Kate should have won?
