And you'll never have too many shoes

As a self-confessed shoe addict, I have more pairs of shoes than I can count (I stopped after 50), and I love every single pair of them, to the point where I actually feel guilty when I haven't worn a pair in a while.

If you're anything like me and appreciate the worth of every pair of shoes you buy, including those Balenciaga heels everyone is obsessed with, then you can be confident in the fact that you're damn right.

Because it turns out the experts agree. As reported by Business Insider, rotating your shoes regularly will make them last longer, especially if you store them right.

‘The best way to extend the life of your shoes is to rotate your shoes and use quality shoe trees after each,’ says Allen Edmonds’ Jim Kass. wear

Not only that, but it’s way more hygienic too, as you sweat when you wear shoes, and if you wear them every day, they don’t have time to properly dry.

Kass says, ‘If you wear the same pair everyday, your shoes don't have ample time to dry and they won't maintain their shape.’

You see, the sweat-soaked leather will warp, and as a result will be more prone to scratches. Also, they will smell.

And we all know that other unwelcome side effect of sweat: hello bacteria (see our guides for how often to wash your bra and your bedsheets in summer if you don’t believe us).

So you go ahead and buy those Balenciaga heels.

And maybe invest in a shoe tree too.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
