Why the A-list is all about all-in-one style this season
The jumpsuit is well and truly back on the fashion radar for spring/summer ’09, but with so many guises, it’s still one of the season’s trickiest trends to tackle.
The A-list has embraced all-in-one styling, and with so many fashionistas dabbling in the look, there’s plenty of sartorial inspiration to muse over. With a range of variations, we’ve narrowed it down to the top trends to know.
The laidback look: The epitome of effortless style, look to Kate Bosworth for the ultimate in all-in-one down time dressing. The Superman Returns actress donned a loose-and-light blue silk number for a stylish take on daytime chic, perfectly paired with strappy sandals, minimal accessories and ubiquitous dark shades. The style criteria? Opt for solid colour and relaxed cuts to nail this look.
Dress-up jumpsuits: Jumpsuit gets glam on the red carpet, in figure-flashing cuts and luxe fabrics. Gwyneth Paltrow went for a backless, wide-leg all-in-one for the Iron Man premiere last year, while Cheryl Cole chose slim-and-strapless on the X Factor. Monochrome block colour is the style du jour, with Duffy, Rihanna, Rachel Stevens and Leona Lewis all looking chic in little black numbers.
Playsuits: Jumpsuits’ flirtier little sister, playsuits, take all-in-one styling thigh-high. Blake Lively’s a firm fan, most recently spotted in a miniscule aqua version, while her co-star Leighton Meester looked chic in her champagne romper.
Eye-catching prints: Perhaps the most daring take on the trend, jumpsuits get an Eighties edge when in bold colour-pop prints. Fearne Cotton embraced the look with her floral jumpsuit, while Heidi Klum went for retro maternity chic, covering her burgeoning baby bump with a wide-leg monochrome number. The look gets cute when mixed with playsuits, as Vanessa Hudgens so perfectly illustrates in her pink ditsy print style.
