The Breakfast at Tiffany’s soundtrack was just the start of it, Alberta Ferretti’s autumn/winter 2012 collection had a distinctively feminine aesthetic, was slicker, more streamlined and very, very black.

Ok, so there was a shot of colour (the kingfisher blue fur coat was a pop of rock ‘n’ roll) but, with just one or two dresses in purple and scarlet, it seemed that the LBD ruled for Alberta this season.

Ladylike and oh-so-chic, these were beautiful clothes for the prim seductress; black leather pencil skirts were spliced with sheer panels and cocktail dresses were pepped-up with fringes, beads or feathery pom-poms.

Holly Golightly would be proud.
