The former Prime Minister's wife, Cherie Blair, has expressed frustrations at the 'yummy mummies' that forgo a satisfying career to bring up children

Cherie Blair accused ‘yummy mummies’ of betraying the feminist struggle as they choose rich husbands and children over careers.

During a speech at Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women event Mrs Blair expressed her frustrations with women who choose a life at home over a rewarding and satisfying career.

She says it is ‘dangerous’ for women to rely solely on their husbands and says she believes women should be ‘self-sufficient' and independent.

The wife of the former PM says,‘every woman needs to be self-sufficient and in that way you really don't have a choice – for your own satisfaction.’

Around two-thirds of mothers are in paid work and Blair suggested that mothers set a better example to their children by working.

‘You hear these yummy mummies talk about being the best possible mother and they put all their effort into their children,' she says.

'I also want to be the best possible mother, but I know that my job as a mother includes bringing my children up so actually they can live without me.’
