Stop The Press: High School Musical 4 Is Making A Comeback

Wildcats rejoice! High School Musical 4 is *actually* happening...

Picking up 10 years after the original 2006 film, Disney has announced plans to continue with the popular HSM franchise, with a brand new cast of characters and a whole new set of problems which can be fixed, of course, with song and dance. High School Musical 4 will take place once again in East High, the location of the original film, but this time the Wildcats will face off against a brand new enemy - their rivals, the West High Knights.

Ermmm, West Side Story, anyone?

For those of you who didn't go full Efron when the original film came out, High School Musical tells the story of Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez as they attempt to find love and happiness, while navigating a terribly self-concious high school hierarchy.

While a new entry in the series seems a bit unnecessary, it has been a full 10 years since the first film was watched by over 7.7 million viewers, and Disney seems keen to replicate the success of the third film, HSM3: Senior Year, which grossed over $250 million at the box office worldwide. And with the reunion special featuring the original cast making the internet go into a frenzy in early 2016, it seems the power of HSM is still strong.

Kenny Ortega - the original director of ALL three films - won't be returning as director and choreographer, instead he'll be replaced by Jeffrey Hornaday who has worked on Disney's recent TV films, the Teen Beach Movie franchise.

The studio is even going so far as to cast unknowns for the new film, after the original made stars of its leads, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. It currently plans to hold an open casting call in the Spring. Unfortunately for us though, it's only open in the US.

But the real question remains: Will Zac and Vanessa Hudgens be making a cameo?
