Kate Middleton and Prince William are gearing up for their first Christmas with baby Prince George, and they're pulling out all the stops to ensure it's a day to remember.

In a break from royal tradition, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to spend Christmas Day at the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk this year, with both of their families.

31-year-old Kate's parents, Carole and Michael, and siblings Pippa and James will be joining Prince Charles and Will's brother Prince Harry for what is expected to be a 30-person royal Christmas celebration.

'It's hugely important to Kate and William that her family is with them,' a royal insider told Life And Style magazine.

Last year, the parents-to-be spent Christmas day with the Middletons at their Bucklebury home in Berkshire, so that a then-pregnant Kate could enjoy her last Christmas before motherhood in the comfort of her own family home.

But with a newborn to now take care of, it looks like the Duke and Duchess are keen to celebrate their baby son's first Christmas with as many of their nearest-and-dearest as possible.

'Kate and William are hugely excited about the festive season and even though George will be only five months old, they know this is a time they'll cherish forever.'

Prince George is expected to get his first glimpse of the royals' traditional 18-foot Norfolk pine tree, which Queen Elizabeth reportedly helps decorate each year, as well as receiving his first ever Christmas gifts from mum and dad.

So what are Kate and Will thinking of purchasing for their cherished little one? 'The cheaper and quirkier, the better!' the insider added about the royal couple's gift theme for this year.

What would you buy for the little Prince who has everything?
