Kate Middleton and Prince William are rumoured to be moving into the Georgian mansion as their country retreat after the Queen ordered renovation work to begin.

According to The Daily Express, the Queen has scheduled improvements on the 10-bedroom mansion on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, which include removing topsoil from a field in front of the house to create a drive, which allows for more privacy.

Work has already begun on a car park and path for the neighbouring St. Mary's church, with 'dozens of armed officers' providing security as the existing gate is reportedly made into a private entrace for Prince William and his brood.

The renovation work, which the Queen is paying for out of pocket, has prompted speculation that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George will settle into the home, which includes a swimming pool and tennis court and is surrounded by thousands of acres of farmland.

Although the trio will be primarily based in London - they're scheduled to move into the 21-room Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace - Anmer Hall would be the country retreat for the young family.

'Nothing is official but the fact that work has started is a clear indication the house is being made ready,' a source told the Express, which also reports that the Queen has asked Anmer Hall's current tenant to vacate, despite having four years left on his lease.
