Royal Baby LATEST: Kate Middleton Admitted To Hospital, Palace Confirms

Kate Middleton's baby is finally on its way, a spokesperson for Kenisngton Palace has confirmed.

Rumours began circulating on Twitter that the Duchess of Cambridge was in labour earlier this morning. Royal sources say that the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William arrived at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital at 5.30am with a police convoy. A spokesperson for Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate Middleton has been admitted.

How exciting!

Representatives from the Palace have yet to release any more information, but it's thought that an announcement about Kate's progress is due imminently.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been staying at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire all week but returned to Kensington Palace over the weekend as the Duchess' due date drew nearer.

The world has been waiting with bated breath for the royal heir ever since we entered the month of the baby's due date on 1 July. Photographers and film crews gathered outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital to secure the best possible spot for the first photograph of the royal baby.

Kate Middleton is giving birth to her first child in the very same hospital where Prince William was delivered back in 1982. When the little one arrives safely, a signed medical document will be driven by car to Buckingham Palace to inform the Queen. In line with royal tradition, a golden easel will then display the document outside Buckingham Palace for the public to see. The baby's arrival will also – for the first time in royal history – be tweeted from the official Clarence House account.

Back in 1982, Prince William's name was announced a whole week after his arrival, so it's unlikely we'll know what the royal baby has been named straightaway. Princess Diana and Prince Charles posed for photographs outside the hospital with their newborn before heading to their new home. Kate and Prince William will be snapped with their new arrival in the next few days.

We'll bring you more news on the royal baby as soon as we have it.
