Kate Middleton Baby: World's Press Gather Outside St Mary's Hospital

by Rebecca Martin

Kate Middleton's first child isn't due for another eleven days or so, but the world's press is already preparing for the royal baby's arrival.

Photographers and reporters have gathered outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, where the Duchess of Cambridge will give birth.

As we entered the month of the baby's due date yesterday, photographers arrived in Paddington to set up camp outside the hospital, hoping for some royal activity. They arrived with step ladders, camera crews, cables and microphones, attempting to secure the best possible spot for the royal baby's very first picture.

Although unconfirmed by Clarence House, it's being reported that the Duchess of Cambridge's due date is 13 July. It's likely we'll know when she goes into labour, but there will be no official royal announcement made until the baby is actually born.

A medical document confirming the sex of the baby will be driven from St Mary's Hospital to Buckingham Palace, where the Queen will be told. The Middleton family will be informed at the same time.

The document will then be posted on an easel outside the Palace, in keeping with royal tradition. Clarence House will then post a message to Twitter. So exciting.

The royal baby will be delivered in the Lindo Wing of the hospital, the very same place where Prince William was born 31 years ago. Back in 1982, Princess Diana and Prince Charles stood outside the hospital with their newborn Prince for a photo opportunity. And that's what the paps are all waiting for.

Parking spaces directly outside the hospital have already been cordoned off in preparation for Kate and Prince William's arrival.

It's going to be a long two weeks. We can't wait! Good luck, Duchess Kate.
