Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton have called time on their relationship after five years together, a spokesperson has confirmed.

The pair are said to have split due to their hectic work schedules and the fact that they live in separate countries. The news comes after it was rumoured that Lewis was planning to propose to Nicole in the near future.

Lewis has had a difficult weekend, it seems. On Sunday, the Formula 1 driver took part in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, but finished in a hugely disappointing 4th place after his rear tyre exploded on the track. Nicole was absent from the race, despite appearing at the Monaco Grand Prix qualifier to support her 'babe' back in May.

Just weeks ago, Lewis revealed to The Sun that marriage was on the cards. He told the tabloid: 'We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone. But hopefully in the near future.'

Today, a source close to the couple told the paper: 'It’s so hard to keep up a relationship when they’re barely in the same country as each other. Both have supported each other in their careers and will continue to do so. But the nature of their work ultimately cost their relationship.'

Lewis moved from Switzerland to a new home in Monaco last year, while Nicole spends the majority of her time in the US.

Earlier last month the pair shared pictures from their romantic break in Capri, where they were celebrating their five-year anniversary.
