Beyoncé’s visit to Havana reportedly did not flout US trade laws and was approved by the US Treasury Department

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s recent trip to Cuba was under investigation after two members of US congress wanted to know if the celebrity couple had been granted a license to travel there by the government. However, Reuters report that the pop stars did not flout a US trade embargo and received permission from the US Treasury Department to visit the island. A source familiar with Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Havana itinerary confirmed to Reuters that the duo were on a cultural trip to Cuba that involved meeting with Cuban artists and musicians, as well as visiting clubs where live music was playing.

They also spent time at a children’s theatre as well as eating at privately-run restaurants called ‘paladares’ with both their mothers.

American citizens are not allowed to travel to Cuba without a license issued by the American government because of a longstanding trade embargo. Republican politicians Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart insited on an investigation into Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s trip claiming it was being used for Cuban government propaganda.

According to the insider the power couple's trip was a cultural visit and they did not meet with any officials or engage in the more usual tourist activities such as going to the beach. BEYONCÉ TALKS INSPIRATION FOR CHIME FOR CHANGE

When the couple took a walk around the Old City , where photos were taken of the stars surrounded by excited fans, they were led by one of the city’s leading architects, Miguel Coyula. Representatives for Beyoncé and her husband are yet to respond.
