Beyonce came out fighting at yesterday's press conference

And this is why Beyonce Knowles runs the world. The superstar found a very effective way of answering her critics, who slammed her for lip syncing the national anthem at Barack Obama's inauguration, by opening last night's Super Bowl press conference by belting out Star Spangled Banner live and acapella.

Beyonce strutted on to the stage in New Orleans in a curve-skimming white mini dress by Olcay Gulden dress teamed with Jimmy Choo shoes, and asked the audience to stand. She then gave a note perfect performance of the national anthem to whoops and cheers from the stunned journalists.

Explaining her decision to mime at Obama's inauguration ceremony, Beyonce said: 'I am a perfectionist, and one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed.

'I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show and a very, very important emotional show for me. One of my proudest moments.

'Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud. So I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry, and I'm very proud of my performance.'

Beyonce then took questions from the esembled press and confirmed that, of course, she would be singing live during her Super Bowl half time show this Sunday.

'I will absolutely be singing live. I am well rehearsed and I will be singing live. This is what I was born to do.'

The singer also touched on her very personal upcoming HBO documentary during the press conference.

'I feel like my daughter has changed me and changed my life and has given me so much purpose,' Knowles told the crowd. 'I feel like this movie, it’s very necessary. It shows a human side. We are all human. I feel like at some point my job is to protect her and I’m happy I can tell my story on my terms.'

After the Super Bowl performance, for which Beyonce has been rehearsing for five months, the star said she was going to relax with her daughter.

'I can’t wait,' smiled the singer. 'I’m going to enjoy my daughter. I miss her, I have been working so hard.'

But it doesn't sound like the hard work is going to stop anytime soon.

She added: 'I may have an announcement after the performance and the fans should just stay tuned to see.'
