This is going to be incredibly fetch

Ever since we heard that Tina Fey had confirmed Mean Girls: The Musical was a goer, there's been one question on our minds – how many more agonising months are we going to have to wait to see it on stage?

And while we've had to wait a long time to find out, the news has finally broken. Mean Girls: The Musical will be opening in Washington DC autumn 2017 and we've got a sneaky suspicion that it might be opening October 3rd – the day known between among diehard fans as Mean Girls Day.

Looks like another year of waiting... Let the countdown commence.

On 3rd March we wrote...

Tina Fey has finally spoken out about Mean Girls: The Musical taking place. And we're happy to report it's not question of if it's happening, but when.

Speaking at a New York Times panel on Wednesday 2nd March, Fey told a Times reporter (after a bit of umming and aahing) that: 'My husband [composer] Jeff Richmond and I, [along with lyricist] Nell Benjamin, have been working on it.'

When the journalist pushed for a definite answer ('So is that still happening?') Fey responded with a resounding, 'yes, yes' - to an audience of cheers. But then dropped in that the project completion was still 'years away' (Damn).

Tina's hubby was the genius who helped turn Legally Blonde into a musical so we know he's going to do an amazing job making this classic teen flick into a musical extravaganza. And our minds are working over-time imagining which characters are destined for their own solo...

Obvs we want to see an extension of Kevin G's epic rap, perhaps as part of boy-band style ballad from the Mathletes, complete with a Timberlake-style string breakdown? And we *need* Janice to get her own angsty pop-punk piece on school life (or maybe her Mum's chest hair) and Gretchen Weiners to belt out a choral anthem called 'Stab Ceasar' or something similar.

Fey also confirmed the planned adaptation earlier in the week during an interview on Howard Stern’s show, but she also lamented her decision not to follow up the hit film with a sequel, saying: 'I don’t know why I didn’t just try to do Mean Girls 2 - everyone does it.'

But not everyone does them well, Tina, not to mention we can't imagine all the old cast will be onboard for a remake, so the musical plans sound so much better.

Before this week, the last time Fey spoke out about the musical was in 2013 to E! News at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. When asked about it, she said: 'Maybe! We want to. I would love to.'

'I'm trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount's onboard.'

Ahhh, we're super happy that the 'maybe' has turned into a definite.

Fey wrote and starred in the 2004 hit movie alongside Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lindsay Lohan.

So what can we expect from the musical? Well, one things for sure – it's not going to be a regular musical, it's going to be a cool musical...
