Kate Middleton beaten to most popular royal title by Prince William

Kate Middleton may be fashion’s favourite but she failed to place in pole position in a recent survey about attitudes towards the Royal Family.

While the Duchess of Cambridge came in fourth place, it was her husband, Prince William, who was crowned Britain’s most popular royal.

The survey, conducted by King’s College London and Ipsos MORI, saw the future King awarded 63 per cent of the vote with his younger brother, Prince Harry, coming in two places behind him. It was a sharp rise from last year’s results with the redhead moving up from 7 per cent to 36 per cent of the votes. Clearly the naked photo in Las Vegas served him well!

After her Diamond Jubilee the Queen was named the second most popular royal in the poll that was unveiled before a debate on the changing face of the monarchy.

Kate Middleton received an impressive quarter of the votes where as the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker-Bowles, took just two per cent.

The results hint at public opinion that we’d like William and Kate take to the throne soon. King's College professor of public opinion and political analysist Roger Mortimore said: ‘A lot of people would like the idea of William succeeding straight away. He is young and good-looking and popular.

‘Young people can see something of themselves in William and Kate. They can see the monarchy looking more modern than it did beforehand.’
