In an interview with Oprah, Rihanna admitted the extent of her feelings for ex-boyfriend Chris Brown

Rihanna has admitted that she still loves Chris Brown and has even gone as far as to say that her 'stomach drops' when she sees him.

Despite the horrible circumtances in which their relationship ended in 2009 - Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards causing nasty injuries - there has always been much speculation as to Rihanna's feelings for her ex.

Now, in a very candid special interview with Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna has revealed the true depth of her feelings for her ex.

Speaking on Oprah: The Next Chapter, which aired in the US last night, the We Found Love singer said: 'We've been working on our friendship again and now we're very close friends. And that's not anything we're going to try to change.

'We built a trust again and that's it. We love each other and we probably always will.'

She continued: 'It's awkward because I still love him.

'My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me. I have to maintain it and suppress it. When you don't understand those feelings you can make a lot of mistakes.'

Rihanna, 24, was happy to speak openly about Brown and put on the record that the fellow singer was the love of her life and that she is still reminded of him constantly.

'I think he was the love of my life. He was my first love,' she said.

'I am reminded by a lot of things. A lot of good memories we had.

'By the slightest things; hotel rooms, tour venues, any little thing, music, songs, and I do miss him at times.'

RiRi then went on to admit that she is ready for the backlash that may ensue from people accusing her of being a poor role model and condoning violence on women, but that she has 100 per cent forgiven her ex.

'I have to move on,' she said. 'I have forgiven him. It took me a long time. I was angry for a long time.'

'I truly love him, so the main thing for me is that he's at peace... I care. It actually matters [to me] that he finds that peace,' she said.

She addd: 'I can't tell people how to feel about it. They're entitled to feel angry because it wasn't a good thing that happened. But I have forgiven him.'
