Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may both have stayed silent since Kristen admitted an affair with Rupert Sanders, but now the estranged couple's Breaking Director Bill Condon has spoken out about the scandal.
In an official interview with Entertainment Weekly, Condon praised Rob and Kristen for 'graciously navigating' the success of the Twilight franchise, but reminded readers they are real people, and not their vampire characters, Edward and Bella.
'The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it’s not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that,' he told the magazine.
'Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon.'
Closing discussion on the matter, Condon added that while Rob and Kristen showed fans 'great respect' during promotion of the hugely popular movies, it is time 'some of that respect be returned'.
'Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success,' he continued. 'Now it’s time that some of that respect be returned to them.'
Well said, Bill!
