Jessica Ennis wins gold REX

Jessica Ennis stormed to victory in the heptathlon on Saturday night, winning a gold medal and being crowned the world's greatest all-round female athlete.

So it is no surprise that she is expected to reap the rewards of her performance.

The champion athlete, 26, is expected to make up to £5m in sponsorship endorsements.

She already has a string of deals with companies including Adidas, Powerade and Olay, but brand experts believe her role as a 'poster girl for the Games' could see her earnings skyrocket.

However, she has always made it clear that she prefers the quiet life, admitting that she felt the pressure of her hype in the run-up to the Olympics.

Ennis has also told friends that her number one priority is to marry and have children - her wedding to fiancé Andy Hill will take place next May.

Following her win she said: 'It’s a number of years of hard work and a lot of training, a lot of dedication and sacrifices – but obviously it is a great privilege to be in this position and to have what was my hobby as my career.

'It is going to be hard to top [the gold medal]. It’s going to be one of my greatest moments but I want to keep going and I definitely want to achieve more. I’m still only 26. I think I have got a few more years yet.’

16m viewers tuned in to watch her win the 800m on Saturday night.
