Emma Watson is known for many things - her role as Hermione in Harry Potter and her spot on red carpet styling among them. But the actress hit the headlines for a different reason last week: walking a pink dog.
EMMA WATSON'S STYLE HIGHS AND LOWS
No sooner had Emma stepped out with the neon-coloured pooch, than she was blasted by critics, concerned for the animal's welfare.
But now the actress has hit back at the comments on Twitter, revealing she was walking the adorable pink pup, named Darcy, for a friend, who had given her a pretty pink makeover to raise money for breast cancer.
'I wish Darcy was my dog but she isn't : ( sorry daily mail! Was just walking her xx @sophiesumner @PinkDarcyDog,' Em Tweeted.
Explaining the reason for Darcy's bright colour, Emma added: 'I don't have a dog. @PinkDarcyDog is pink because her owner is raising money for breast cancer…#factcheckingtakesfiveminutes.'
Earlier this week, animal rights group PETA released a statement which read: 'Our dogs and cats love us regardless of how we look; we should extend the same kindness to them.'
But owner of Groom Dog City, Stuart Simons, who dyed Darcy the dog for her charity work, revealed the beetroot-based semi-permanent dye used is completely harmless and animal friendly.
'I wet the dog, rub it on like shampoo, leave it for five minutes and then wash it off,' he told the Evening Standard.
'Because Darcy is white, it takes really well. She is a very calm dog, absolutely lovely, and she enjoys her groom. '
We're glad to hear it.
