Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy becomes honorary citizen of Croatian town

By Suzannah Ramsdale - Tuesday 26 June 2012

Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z's daughter has become an honorary citizen of the Croatian town Hvar.

Blue Ivy Carter was reportedly named after a tree the couple saw while on holiday on the island in September 2011.

At the time Beyonce recorded a video of her standing next to the tree, that was wrapped in Blue Ivy, saying: 'We woke up this morning, took a nice little walk, passed by this beautiful blue tree.

'I think it's Blue Ivy, which would be quite appropriate!'

Since the video was released, interest in the island has apparently massively increased.

So much so that Hvar's Mayor Pjerino Bebic wrote a letter to Beyonce and Jay-Z thanking them and informing them that their daughter is now an honorary citizen of the town.

The letter read: 'The story of the origin of the name of your daughter has brought enormous media attention and therefore tourist promotion to the town and island of Hvar.

'Because of this, I have decided to confer on your daughter the status of honorary citizen of the town of Hvar.'
