Princess Beatrice greets the Olympic flame on latest leg of torch relay

By Fiona Raisbeck - Wednesday 20 June 2012

The Olympic torch got a royal reception yesterday afternoon as Princess Beatrice greeted the flame in Yorkshire on the latest leg of the torch relay.

The 23-year-old was the guest of honour at Harewood House, on the outskirts of Leeds, where she and members of the public cheered torchbearer Janet Baker as she ran towards the stately home with the Olympic flame on day 32 of the relay.

The young royal then posed on the steps of the grand house for a series of pictures alongside Baker – who was nominated to carry the torch for her dedication to charity fundraising – and the Earl of Harewood.

Princess Beatrice, wearing a floral print dress, knitted coat and black courts, then went on a walk around the grounds and spent some time chatting to families and local schoolchildren who had come down to witness the historic event.

Kids from 13 schools in the Leeds area were invited by the Earl to attend and take part in a sports event, where Beatrice handed out the prizes on a day they'll never forget.

The Olympic torch will visit parts of Scotland and Carlisle today, before working its way south through the Lake District in the north-west of England tomorrow. The relay will finish at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London on 27th July.
