By Suzannah Ramsdale on Tuesday 14 February 2012
Kate Middleton has embarked on a busy day of solo public engagements, starting with a visit to The Brink in Liverpool.
The Duchess of Cambridge is spending her first Valentine's Day as a married woman more than 7,900 miles away from husband Prince William, who is currently on a six-week tour of duty in the Falklands.
DUCHESS KATE WOWS AT FIRST SOLO PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
The first stop on her charity trip to the north of England began with a visit to a non-alcoholic bar called The Brink, run by the Action on Addiction charity that helps addicts recover from drink and drug dependency.
There she was greeted by crowds cheering and waving flags as well as a live performance by the resident choir, Raucous Caucus Recovery Chorus, who sang Wings of a Dove.
Later on today, the 30-year-old will meet children being treated for cancer and burns injuries at Alder Hey Children's Hospital and visit Ronald McDonald House, which provides free accommodation for families visiting sick children.
For her second public solo engagement, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a £369 coat from high street store Hobbs, which she teamed with a black polo neck jumper, opaque black tights and black round-toed heels.
