Jean Paul Gaultier catwalk show is insult to Amy Winehouse, claims father
By Lisa Potter on Friday 27 January 2012
Mitch Winehouse has revealed his shock at Jean Paul Gaultier's couture collection inspired by late daughter Amy.
Amy Winehouse's grieving father Mitch has accused designer Jean Paul Gaultier of cashing in on her death with a 'bad taste' fashion show.
The French designer mimicked Amy's love for fifties fashion when his chain-smoking models sauntered down the catwalk as mourners wearing veils, channelling her infamous style complete with messy beehives and 60's eyeliner, while a band performed her biggest hits.
AMY WINEHOUSE: A RETROSPECTIVE
But Mitch Winehouse has said his family are devastated that the fashion house have used Amy's image as a gimmick.
He told The Sun: 'The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock.
'We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary.'
Shocked at the insensitive tribute, Mitch added that no one had yet offered to make a donation to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity to help vulnerable people.
He added that while he was proud that Amy was something of a style muse, the chain-smoking and black veils 'glamorises some of the more upsetting times in her life'.

Yesterday Mitch tweeted: 'We don't support the Jean Paul Gaultier collection. It's in bad taste.'
But Gaultier insists it was a 'tribute', saying: 'She was an icon of fashion and truly, the sense of how she mixed the clothes - it was great.'
