Meryl Streep braves the rain as she walks the blue carpet for last night's UK premiere of The Iron Lady.
She is the bookies' favourite to win an Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in new movie The Iron Lady and, at the UK premiere last night, Meryl Streep looked every inch the star she is.
Wrapping up against the miserable weather, Streep looked chic in a long black dress teamed with an oversized poncho, black boots and a gold statement necklace as she walked the specially laid 'Conservative blue' carpet at the BFI Southbank theatre in London.
In the highly-anticipated film, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, Streep plays the former Prime Minister through a series of flashbacks.
The 62-year-old actress, and self confessed liberal, spoke about taking on the role of the controversial conservative, saying: 'I admire many of her qualities, I don't agree with many of her policies.'
While some say Streep portrays Thatcher in an undeservingly symathetic light, she says: 'I think, the thing that I noticed when I was making the film, is how fiery hot on both sides the feelings were, people wanted to hold her as this indelible icon or they wanted to regard her as a monster.
'To me the only interesting thing is to look at Margaret Thatcher as if she were a human being, which after all she is,' she adds.
The film hits UK cinemas this Friday but you can see the trailer here...
