Up and coming actress Rooney Mara looked a million miles away from her moody on-screen persona as she hit the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square last night, for the premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Leaving tough alter-ego Lisbeth Salander behind, the actress dazzled in a stunning backless Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Couture gown, as she joined Daniel Craig and a host of the film’s stars on the red carpet.

Despite her red carpet clothing transformation, Mara still sported Lisbeth's harsh raven locks and straight, blunt fringe.

The actress struck a pose for snappers alongside leading man Daniel Craig, before being joined by co-stars Joely Richardson, Stellen Skarsgard, Steven Berkoff and director David Fincher.

Earlier this year, the actress, who beat a host of A-listers, including Carey Mulligan, Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson to the sought-after part, opened up on making the dramatic transformation into author Steig Larrson’s brooding character.

Speaking of undergoing her movie makeover, the Social Network star revealed she completed the transformation in just one day, having her hair cut and dyed and a full set of piercings.

'I didn’t even have pierced ears,' she said. 'They put four holes in each ear, and, weirdly, that hurt the most,' she said.

'It was all very organised. With [director] David [Fincher] everything is measured and carefully considered. He wants what he sees in his head.'
