France's first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has named her little baby girl Giulia.
Carla, who gave birth to Giulia on Wednesday evening, thanked well-wishes for their support on her official website, saying: 'I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter.
‘On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all those of you who sent us these tokens of your kindness.'
It is thought that President Sarkozy was on a plane to Frankfurt while Bruni was in labour, visiting only briefly that evening to see his wife and newborn child - at the exclusive private Muette Clinic in Paris.
Giulia is the first baby ever born to a French presidential couple in office.
