David and Victoria Beckham name their baby girl Harper Seven

By Lucy Hutchings  on Monday 11 July 2011

David and Victoria Beckham have named their new baby girl Harper Seven.

Their first daughter was born yesterday at 7.55am and dad David took to his Facebook page to announce her much-anticipated moniker to the world: 'I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham.'

'She weighed a healthy 7lbs 10oz and arrived at 7.55 this morning, here in LA. Victoria is doing really well and her brothers are delighted to have a baby sister xx'

No explanation for the name was given with the message, although her numeric middle name is believed to be a reference to her dad's football number and also refers to the little girl's month and time of birth.

Friends and family were quick to tweet congratulations to the couple yesterday, with Victoria's Spice Girl bandmates first in line.

Fellow mum-to-be Mel B tweeted, 'Congrats!!! Yipeee another spice baby is born, damn it wish it was me this AM cos I feel like I'm about to POP!', while Emma Bunton added, 'Big kiss to @victoriabeckham can't wait to meet your gorgeous little girl!'

David's sister Joanne also took to the social networking site, 'Big congrats to my sister in law @victoriabeckham and my big bro on the birth of my beautiful niece :) can't wait 2 see u all xx'

Congratulations to the Beckhams - we can't wait to get our first peek at little Harper!
