George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis split
By Eleanor Young on Thursday 23 June 2011
Oceans Eleven actor George Clooney and his Italian model girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis have ended their relationship, a rep for the pair confirmed yesterday.
It’s not yet known why the picture-perfect couple called time on their two-year union.
All we do know is that Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor is now back on the market.
‘We are not together anymore,’ the pair said in a statement. ‘It's very difficult and very personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.’
The split comes just weeks after Canalis – who was spotted attending the Cannes film festival alone last month – gushed about continuing her ‘fairytale’ romance in an interview.
The model also spoke of her desire to marry - something lovely Mr Clooney is notoriously reluctant to do - and some are suggesting this played a part in the breakdown of their relationship.
‘I am a firm believer in marriage, in the future I will be married,’ Elisabetta told Italian Chi magazine last month.
‘But for the time being I am happy as I am. I don’t need anything to confirm how happy I am… I am very happy at the moment, thanks to my man, and my fairytale is continuing.’

George have previously dated a string of beauties – including waitress Sarah Larson and Brit show host Lisa Snowdon – famously bet his One Fine Day co-star Michelle Pfeiffer $100 he would never marry.
But his wager now stands at a whopping $100,000. 'He's just a great guy, great with kids,’ she said last year.
'I bet him he would get married and he keeps inflating the bet - from 100 dollars to 100,000 dollars.'
