Cheryl Cole 'axed' from American X Factor
By Eleanor Young on Thursday 26 May 2011
Less than one month after American X Factor filming began, Geordie songstress Cheryl Cole has been dropped as a judge on the high profile music show, according to sensational reports.
Spokesmen have yet to confirm the reason for Cheryl's departure, but already Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger - who was initially given a presenting role on the show - is being tipped to step into her place on the judging panel.

US celebrity website TMZ - who broke the story - have suggested the 27-year-old Promise This singer 'lacked chemistry' with her fellow female judge Paula Abdul, while others are blaming a behind-the-scenes personality clash between the two singers for Cheryl's early exit.
Some have even gone to far as to say Cheryl has been sacked from the American X Factor show, by uneasy Fox bosses, worried audiences would have trouble understanding the starlet's strong Newcastle accent.

Others, however, are claiming Ms C herself made the decision to leave, after feeling homesick after her move Stateside, and exhausted by the busy filming schedule.
'It hasn't worked out,' one insider reportedly told the Sun. 'She's homesick and wants to return to the UK. She's had enough.'

After months of indecision, Cheryl was finally given an all-singing, all-dancing welcome by Fox bosses, who praised the star as having 'the whole X Factor package,' crediting her as 'an incredibly talented artist and performer,' with a 'special charisma that draws in fans around the world'
But after auditions got off to a start in New York and Chicago, it's rumoured show execs failed to warm to Cheryl - leading to her receive a very lukewarm reception on the American X Factor television promo.

With the news out of the bag, talk has already turned to Cheryl's next move, and whether the British beauty will resume her place on the British X Factor panel.
'Whether she ends up back on UK X Factor is open to speculation,' an insider added.
Representatives for Cheryl are yet to comment.

There is another option/possibility to her departure: These type of shows thrive on, and seek controversy in order to publicise/hype the show before it airs. In the UK there's always news of judges not getting on or being sacked etc (anyone remember the blatantly pantomime, Simon's sacked Louis Walsh/let's rehire Louis Walsh nonsense a few years ago?)
It's my belief (having some first hand knowledge of how these shows work) that this could be all part of the pantomime to get the hype machine rolling. It's pretty obvious that nice as she is Cheryl Cole doesn't have the US mass-appeal this show needs, and it was a big surprise to hear she'd been hired, partly due to the accent, partly due to being an unknown. But she's had the opportunity to be cast as the judge, launch herself in America (with full knowledge that she won't be working on the show for long) make it into all the magazines, 'leave' the show due to being 'homesickness' or 'professional differences' (create more headlines and will be in much demand to tell her side of things to all and sundry) and then gets to make an heroic return to the UK, save the UK X Factor from banality and create fresh interest and hype in the UK show. It's win win.
Call me cynical but I don't think that puppet master extraordinaire, the calculating Mr Cowell, is not above this kind of string pulling.

I think everyone must have some idea this was going to happen :-)

As much as I don't rate Cheryl Cole, I feel sorry for her - it can't be very nice to be given such a big job like this then so publicly lose it. I was surprised she was offered it anyway, as I couldn't see that she would fit into the US market particularly well.

Oh thank goodness someone has finally realised this girl has NO TALENT! Very pretty (with the help of veneers etc etc etc but that's where it stops! Taxi for Cole... or should that be Tweedy, not really sure :)
Comment by Val on May 26 13:12
Is it not simply the case that there were way too many Brits on this show? Half of the personalities were Brits, and they were trying to introduce two new British stars at the same time... Surely there are enough famous Americans to make an American talent show without having two British judges and a British presenter? Weird!
Comment by Gemma on May 26 13:20
OMG why oh why am I not suprised to hear this... I so couldn't take this chick serious if she where judging me lol!
Paula, Jlo now they are what you call star's in their own right & still performing too-not knocking out some piece of track below par.
America is big time- not like some of the chav TV trash we get over here; if you can't cut it
" Get OUT" home sick my eye

The Americans are quicker than us, they cottoned on pretty quickly how talentless she is. Please dont send her back here though, I am sick of the sound and sight of her, there are many more girls around who actually have some talent that should be given a chance. Homesick !!! how can anyone get homesick in 1 month, rubbish excuse, not plausible at all. She is just another manufactured and made up doll with no talent. I also want to know how she got a visa for the USA anyway with a criminal record ?? Would anyone else get one ?
Comment by susan on May 26 14:13
Well said :- Val, Sandy & Susan ~ i don't know how she ever made it on to the UK X Factor panel let alone the American one, we have Simon Cowell to thank for that, & yes, no ordinary person would ever have got a entry visa into the States with a criminal record - we have Simon Cowell to thank for that too, no doubt. Like the old record lyrics "Money Talks". She's about as real and has as much talent as a plastic barbie doll in all senses . . . I hope most fervently she doesn't get a place back on the UK panel and just fades into obscurity silently . . . .
Comment by Anne on May 26 14:56
I'm not suprised - Americans arent very welcoming of foreigners so it only a matter of time before they drove her away.
Comment by Cerise on May 26 15:06
I feel sorry the way Cheryl has been dismissed from USA but the powers that be knew very well her Geordie accent would be a problem + she just isn't well enough known there.Perhaps her time in the spotlight is over!
Comment by kathy on May 26 17:24
Well, I hope you never lose a job and then have people slagging you off so publicly. If you have nothing nice to say etc.
Comment by Michelle on May 26 18:09
Shows like that need 'name power' more than they need talent--most people in the US have never heard of her, so maybe 'random British girl' wasn't what Cowell needed to beat Idol and the Voice.
Comment by Vivi on May 26 19:19
Cheryl wasn't good for the job anyway.
