Prince William and Kate Middleton to welcome the Obamas
By Eleanor Young on Tuesday 24 May 2011
Prince William and Kate Middleton will be on hand to greet American President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama as they arrive in London to begin their official tour of the UK today.
It’s thought the Obamas – who missed out on an invite to William and Kate’s Royal Wedding – will meet the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during a reception held by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Reports suggest the President and First Lady, who are staying in staterooms at the Queen’s official residence, will also visit the royal art collection, and enjoy a lavish banquet hosted by the monarch tonight.
The presidential pair touched down in the UK ahead of schedule last night, following fears the Icelandic ash cloud would prevent them from travelling today.

Their visit to London comes as party of a their week-long European tour, which kicked off in Ireland over the weekend.
The pair arrived in the President's sprawling Air Force One aircraft - a specially built plane featuring all mod-cons (yes, even a gym!).
Along with the giant craft, the presidential couple also brought a 500-strong entourage, a helicopter and an armoured Cadillac to help them feel at home during their trip.
