Sarah Ferguson has spoken about missing out on an invite to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding for the first time, revealing her heartache to Oprah, on her famous American chat show.

The ex-royal was left off the list after running up millions of pounds worth of debts, and being caught on camera trying to sell access to her ex-husband,but claims she still felt hurt and ‘worthless’ by the snub.

'I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and that [it] was quite right they didn't invite me,’ she told Oprah. ‘Why would they - why would they invite me?'

'I felt that I ostracised myself by my behaviour, by the past, by living with all the regrets of my mistakes, that I sort of wore a hair shirt and beat myself up most of the day thinking and regretting why did I make such a mistake? Why have I made so many mistakes?'

Instead of watching William and Kate’s nuptials on television with the rest of the world, Fergie told how how she escaped to a jungle in Thailand – and just had to make do with regular updates from Prince Andrew, over the phone.

'I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia... the jungle embraced me,' she explained, adding the slight 'was so difficult, because I wanted to be there with my girls... to be getting them dressed and to go as a family.'

'Also, it was so hard, because the last bride up that aisle was me.'

'When Andrew went with the girls, we were talking all morning and he was saying, "It's okay. Just remember we had such a good day. Our wedding was so perfect,”’ she added. ‘He made me feel very part of the day on April the 29th.'

Bizarrely, the Duchess also drew comparisons between herself and Princess Diana, explaining they both missed out on William and Kate’s wedding day.

'I really love the feeling that sort of Diana and I both weren't there,' she said. 'But I'm here to say how proud she would have been and Kate looked utterly beautiful.'

'I think Diana would be so proud of her son. Both of them, you know? They did a great job.'

Do YOU think Sarah Ferguson should be invited to William and Kate’s royal wedding festivities? Or were they right to leave her off the list? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

She should have been invited, I put this snub on a par with Diana having her HRH withdrawn
Comment by Barry Campbell on May 11 11:45

Poor lady, obviously often behaves idiotically but is her own worse enemy and wouldn't embarrass the royal family with her attendance at the wedding. Neither she nor Andrew have ever had another serious relationship and continue to be an admirable family unit with their daughters, she should absolutely be invited to these family occasions. I feel for her.
Comment by lisah on May 11 13:08

Absolutely right to leave her off the guest list. She has been an embarrassment. In any case the guest list was personal to William and Catherine, it was NOT a state event and the invitations were issued by them. How dare she compare herself to Princess Diana!
Comment by Joy on May 11 13:18

I totally agree with Barry Campbell. The Queen and Prince Philip seem to be vindictive.
Comment by Susie Main on May 11 13:19

Yes, it was really rude of the Royal family to snub here and leave her out, she has every right to be there.
Comment by KMan on May 11 13:24

She's divorced from Prince William's uncle. How many people would really invite their aunt or uncles ex partner to their wedding
Comment by SEANEEN on May 11 13:26

It was correct they didn't invite her, she is an embarrassment to herself the Royal Family and the UK, saying Prince Andrew said "Our day was so perfect" yeah right, of course he did. I am playing the world's smallest violin.

she dosent say if she has any relationship with william and harry, i would have expected she does see them through her daughters and ex husband. If she does she should have been invited if not well what does she expect....
Comment by neale on May 11 13:38

Why should she be invited, she was out of the royal family when William was still a little boy, he has no connection to her. Also she has done the royal name no favours with her common and cheap behaviour. Her daughters were invited because they are friends of the couple. She will use this a means to make money through interviews, a leopard will never change its spots
Comment by PAT on May 11 13:51

She wants everyone to feel sorry for her well I for one do not,"In stead of watching the wedding on television I went to Thailand" 1st class no doubt she is lucky she can afford to just pop over to Thailand when she likes. She really wants to start living in the real world.
Comment by nannyof9 on May 11 13:55

Why should she be invited? She has no 'right' to be there at all, she used to be married to one of Will's uncles - that's it. And to bleat about it on American TV ..... she won't be invited to anything else either!
Comment by Lou on May 11 14:10

Joy on May 11 13:18 - I totally agree with you.
WHY on earth would she expect to be invited? She has absolutely no right whatsoever to be invited to their wedding! An utter embarrassment.
Comment by Gail on May 11 14:13

I think she should have been there she is still Mother to the Princess who in part are Royalty and what ever happened to the head of the church Of England Thou should forgive ??
its a load of Spitefulness taken to another level Fergie may not be the best person to come out of that family but she certainly isnt the worst yet everyone else was there they should have given her the Invite thats my personal Take on it each to their own
Comment by Clarissa Edgar on May 11 14:19

No reason to invite that person. She never stopped telling the USA about her her ex husband's family and part of that family is William & Harry so why would they invite her??
Comment by margaret on May 11 15:21

I agree with Seenean - she's the groom's uncle's former wife - most people don't invite their relatives former partners. Why should William and Kate the any different?
Comment by Janet on May 11 16:15

Of course she should have been invited - her daughters were there. Like it or not she is linked to the royal family and her absence was noticed and commented on during the day.
The royal family should forgive & move on
Comment by Dawn on May 12 16:10

Respect for Beatrice & Eugine she should have gone.
But we all know protocol is vital.
Nice to see posh & Becks there ?? As well as the renowned druggie Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. As silly as Sarah has been, she has NEVER been as bad as her.............xx
Comment by eddengenes on May 16 16:08

yes the duchess of york should have celebrated the day with her 2 daughters her absense was noticed by everyone i am sure, when a marriage breaks up it is important to try and get a long for the childrens sake and prince andrew and fergie seem to shouldnt the royal family set a good example that no matter what both parents and family can be adult enough to all be able to spend some time together on special ocassion very dissapointed by the snub have the royal family not heard of forgive and forget !!
