Simon Cowell drops X Factor winner Shayne Ward
By Eleanor Young on Tuesday 19 April 2011
Just days after ditching 2009 winner Joe McElderry, ruthless media mogul Simon Cowell has dropped yet another failing singer – 2005 winner, Shayne Ward.

It’s thought the parting of ways came after Shane's last single – a cover of Nickleback’s rock hit Gotta Be Somebody – made it to just number 12 in the charts.
After five years signed to the label, reports suggested Simon’s record label Syco hoped Shayne would make a comeback last year, as he hit the publicity trail with a brand new album under his belt.
But after poor song sales – and his album Obsession charting at a sorry number 15 - it seems bosses decided it was time for the chop.
‘After five very successful years and an international career which saw him sell over 3.2 million records, Shayne's contract has come to an end,’ a Syco spokesman confirmed today.

Although execs didn’t give a reason for their decision, insiders have revealed Shane’s music was just too dated, leaving bosses struggling to place him in the fast-paced music market.
‘Shayne's a nice lad and works hard but people just don't seem to want to buy his music,’ one source told the Sun.
‘He doesn't fit into the categories of stuff kids buy. He'd be better off in a boyband.’

Along with Joe McElderry, Shayne joins unlucky singers Leon Jackson – who was dropped after his debut album made just number four in the charts – and crooner Steve Brookstein, who parted ways with Cowell after just eight months, and was most recently seen touring UK coffee shops.
2010 winner Matt Cardle is now Syco’s only surviving male X Factor act.
