Victoria Beckham to name baby Santa?
By Lucy Hutchings on Monday 11 April 2011
Is Christmas coming early for the Beckhams this year?
The latest baby rumour to hit the headlines suggests that Victoria is considering calling their baby girl Santa, but she hasn't been inspired by Father Christmas...
The stylists reportedly was drawn to the name thanks to the LA Suburb of Santa Monica.
A source claims: 'Posh thinks Santa Beckham has a lovely ring to it and wants something unique. David prefers something traditional, but will probably go along with what she chooses.'
It wouldn't be the first time the couple picked a location-inspired baby name - their first son Brooklyn is famously named after the New York district.

Well I have heard it all now! I just hope it`s not true. But then I suppose if someone can call their Daughter Hero, I suppose they can call them anything.

In the anglo-saxon culture Santa Claus is the first that comes to mind, but we can't forget that the Spanish word Santa means Holly in English. So if Holly is not a strange name, we should now think of Santa as an "weird" name for a baby.

Or they coud just choose Monica and save the poor child years of teasing.....

If it's supposed to be after Santa Monica then why not go for Monica?!
Comment by Cat on April 11 14:24
Santa actually means holy in English, not holly as mentioned above. They could definitely come up with something better!

I have to say Santa is not such a bizarre name, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's sister is an author called Santa and a very elegant lady too. Hero is a famous Shakespearian heroine and not at all strange either. Sometimes unusual names are just names not often used, they're not necessarily strange names per se.

Give them a break, they could do a lot worse than Santa. It means holy (not Holly) or a female saint, as in Santa Monica or Santa Barbara, and I for one would far rather be called Santa than either Monica or Barbara!
Tara Palmer-Tompkinson's sister is called Santa - it's a pre-existing name, not a made up name like Brooklyn, and better than Apple at any rate!

Isn't Tara Palmer-Tompkinson's sister called Santa?

Santa is not an unusual name in latin cultures. I named my daughter Santa after her grandmother. Santa means saint or holy in spanish. For example Santa Barbara=Saint Barbara or Santa Cruz= Holy Cross. My daughter is a teenager and was teased in school about her name by non Spanish speaking kids. She refuses to go by any other name than the name that she was given. She is proud of her Latin heritage and has taught others to respect her by not backing down or changing. She has a very strong sense of identity that most kids her age do not. She has met other women with the name Santa from Latin or Italian cultures. She recently spoke to elementary and middle schools for her senior project about bullying. Her message was that it is ok to be unique and to embrace diversity not ignorance.
