He’s the hottest name in Hollywood, and Twilight’s biggest star, but it seems Robert Pattinson’s latest film is having more than a little trouble getting off the ground.

The star has revealed period style flick Bel Ami is running way behind schedule - and still in the editing stages – because the film's bosses are terrified his womanising character is unmarketable.

R-patz shot the period-style flick between Twilight films last year, and was spotted on location in Budapest, with co-star Uma Thurman.

The movie – which also stars Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas - charts a young man's rise to power in Paris and his manipulation of the city's most wealthy and influential women.

But according to reports, bosses delayed the film’s release after it stalled during the editing stages, becoming worried Rob’s womanizing character will be unmarketable.

It's thought the film – which features several steamy scenes – would not be suitable for Rob’s fan base, and has left producers worried no one will see the movie.

‘We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a s**t who wins everything at the end it's really difficult to market it - especially with me in it,’ Rob told Total Film.

‘Everyone's worried that everyone's going to be thinking, “Oh I want him to be nice, he's got to be nice to all the ladies”’.

Rumour has it, execs behind the scenes are frantically re-cutting the movie to show R-Patz in a more favourable light, but studios have yet to confirm a release date.

YES I am dying to see it! It is based on a book and Rob is playing the lead character.....why would this film NOT make money? Investors need to understand, there are fans out there who WANT to see Rob in a new & different role! Coincidentally, a lot of those fans are the ones who TAKE the tweens to see the Twilight franchise movies, you know who they are? the MOM'S!!!! It seems the execs are forgetting what the cast was there to do, it is called acting.....let this movie be released....it will sell tickets! It's based on a book...did people say the same thing about Jodie Foster in The Accused? She took a risky role and what happened? She won an Oscar!

Well I definitely won't see it now Rob's spolit how it ends.
Comment by Sidekickgirl on March 31 12:45

well if he wants to be taken as a serious actor he's got to deal with being all sorts of characters...good or bad!

if women really do get offended by him playing a not-so-nice character then they clearly need to get out more!!
Comment by nic on March 31 12:51

Who cares really what is role is if the movie is good does it matter if he's a womanizer it's not like that's who he is in real life people keep forgetting it's just a movie and how else is he suppose to move on from twilight if people are scared of the way he is portrayed the guy is an actor I love him in twilight and I am a fan of the movies I am a movie person love movies and if his movie bel ami is a good movie release it help get out from under twilight good guy look he's an actor it's not who he is in real life people need separate the two.

Of course I would go to see it. Robert is an actor and by the very nature of his profession he is likely to act in a range of styles and situations. To attempt to limit his audience just because of the Twilight franchise is a disservice not only to him but to the other actors in Bel Ami.
Comment by Glynis on March 31 13:07

YES! I would see Rob in anything, whether it is based on a book, comic or postage stamp. I would also like to see Rob in nothing; which I will, judging by the steamy scenes apparently on offer in Bel Ami !!
Comment by kerryH on March 31 13:15

I would love to see Rob being naughty! Remember, most of his fans are over 18 years old! I can't wait for the movie. If anyone has a hard time seperating the actor from the person then they really need to seek help.Besides, give his fan base a little more credit.
Comment by Sierra on March 31 13:26

Nic, you are spot on!
Comment by Shelly on March 31 13:28

Yes I will see it. It's not who he is, its just a charactor he is playing.
Comment by Linda on March 31 13:56

I would see Bel Ami only if Rob stops wearing that god forsaken "Wu Tang" sweatshirt, not too fond of that. If his personality is decent towards all fans no matter what race, culture, then I would go but if he's trying to give a message with that Wu Tang crap, then I wont bother.
Comment by Miranda on March 31 13:59

Call me cynical but what excellent marketing - the film is too steamy you say?! Lots of saucy scenes with the lovely Rob, eh?! Can't think of anything more likely to have his fans heading to see this at the cinema in their droves - and am sure the younger ones will manage to see it somehow. Bet they don't do any editing at all.
Comment by Julia Thomson on March 31 15:45

The book is quite good. i will still see the film, it will be good to see rob in a different role.
Comment by maria on March 31 17:37

yes, i would see it. it's called acting. robert pattinson is not really edward cullen. check out Little Ashes....it's a great pattinson performance.
Comment by allysa on April 01 20:17

Absolutely, he is first and fore most an actor. Who must be willing to play a variety of rolls. Some will be praised and others not, but that is not a reason to think that he would be unmarketable. I say let the film and the performance speak for themselves.
Comment by Brendew on April 06 03:07

I think Robs best film so far was "Remember Me" with Emilie de Ravin & think it will be great to see him in more demanding roles other than Twilight will def go watch this film.
