Gwen Stefani donates $1 million to Japan
By Rebecca Cope on Thursday 24 March 2011
Gwen Stefani is the latest charitable star to support the aid effort in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami, donating a whopping $1 million.
The 41-year-old singer made her generous donation to Save The Children’s Japan Earthquake-Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund.
Her support comes as no surprise considering her well-documented love of Japan. She told US Magazine: 'I've been inspired by Japan for many years and have a true love appreciation and respect for the Japanese people and their culture.
'The disaster in Japan is beyond heartbreaking and I want to do anything I can to help. I would never be able to make a gesture like this without the love and support of all the fans over all these years.'
She's also offering fans the chance to help. A charity auction is due to take place where lots on offer include the chance to meet Gwen herself, and the L.A.M.B designer will also be selling specially designed Harajuku Lovers T-shirts - with all of the proceeds going towards the Japanese relief effort.
Gwen is just the latest in a long list of celebs getting involved; Lady Gaga recently designed a bracelet which has raised over $250 000, while Sandra Bullock donated $1 million last week.

I'm sorry - while I am thrilled that some of millionaires are helping out Japan, I don't think they deserve a pat on the back for it. If I was a millionaire, I would do the same. They have the money, they should help out more than the average folks. Remember - it is tax deductible so they are getting it back. It's just a shame that more people aren't so generous with people who are suffering in our own country.
