Sandra Bullock donates $1million to help Japan disaster victims
By Eleanor Young on Friday 18 March 2011
Kind-hearted Hollywood starlet Sandra Bullock has donated a whopping $1 million to the Red Cross to help fund rescue efforts in Japan, following the devastating earthquake and tsunami, which struck exactly a week ago today.

The A-list actress – who reportedly took home $22 million last year – decided to spend her earnings wisely, and donated a large sum to the charity earlier this week.
Sandra’s generous offering is the largest celebrity donation announced since the Japanese disaster hit, although it’s thought the charity could have received other sizable donations from other A-listers who wish to remain anonymous.
Today the American Red Cross thanked the actress for her help, which will fund ‘critical assistance’ in the country.
'The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family,’ a spokesman said in a statement.
'This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.'

Sandra isn’t the only celeb to offer help to earthquake and Tsunami victims.
Yesterday, MC cover girl Amanda Seyfried was pictured holding a ‘please help’ banner in Hollywood, while Disney star Demi Lovato took to the streets to encourage fans to donate.
Earlier this week, songstress Lady Gaga raised $250,000 in just 48 hours, after designing a special Japan prayer bracelet, and troubled star Charlie sheen revealed $1 from every ticket of his sold-out, 12-date tour would be given to the Red Cross charity.

Songstress, Katy Perry has announced all proceeds from light wands sold on her tour will be given to help relief efforts, while Rihanna, P.Diddy and Justin Bieber all posted details on Twitter on how to donate.

What a wonderful donation made by Sandra Bullock to these equally beautiful and caring Japanese people, making nothing of what we had all been glossly mislead about them during the second world war and thereafter. They have been so dignified through out and I wish them a speedy recovery from this horrendous disaster. God Bless them all. Raymond Ashley. Liverpool. England

It just shows you though doesn't it... Sandra Bullock donates money from her own pocket - Katy Perry donates proceeds from light wands sold at her concert..probably won't impact her earnings at all..

She's great - really putting other celebs to shame (just posting info on how to donate on twitter? come on you rich-but-thrifty popsters!).
Then again, with an income of $22 million a year, she can afford it. Yep, tell you what anything I make over $23 million dollars this year, I'll donate to charity :)
