It looks like our favourite singleton could be set to return, after Renee Zellweger has reportedly signed up to star in Bridget Jones three.

Talk suggests bosses could have begun planning the remake back in 2009, but failed to convince Renee to reprise her role in the hit franchise.

The health-conscious starlet was reportedly unhappy about having to gain weight for a third flick and worried about the effect it would have on her body.

'I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you long-term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time,' she revealed in an interview in 2007.

But now rumour has it the studio has finally coaxed Renee into returning, after promising she won’t have to pile on the pounds.

Renee had no reservations about saying yes once she found out she wouldn't have to get fat,’ a studio insider told the Sun.

‘She hated having to do that in the last two films.’

And it’s thought Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are also keen on the idea of a third installment, and have already agreed to sign on the dotted line.

'Colin is really keen on a third film,’ another insider added. He thinks it will be a great flick to get his teeth into after all the success with The King's Speech, as it's so different.

‘He's getting very excited about the idea of marriage and kids in the script, now all the characters are older.’

The latest flick is rumoured to focus on Bridget's desire to have a baby, as her biological clock starts to tick, and could even feature a pregnancy triangle, with Bridget worried about the identity of the father.

We. Can’t. Wait.

No, please no Bridget Jones 3! the first was inspired, the second a travesty....the third unnecessary!

Comment by Andrea on March 02 18:23

1st film was genius. 2nd not a patch on 1st. Will 3rd be a further disappointment?
Comment by c on March 03 20:44

I always thought she looked a hell of a lot more healthy as Bridget Jones than her usual size. She was never 'fat' as Bridget Jones, just nice and normal.

As for another film...I'll go watch it but I won't have high hopes!

I love Bridget Jones and think that the chance to revisit the characters of Bridget, Mark and Daniel is very exciting. I thought the second film was wonderful and I hope this new film will do another one of those poxy fights between Cleaver and Darcy. Can't wait for the new film with two big thumbs up. Go team Mark Darcy.

Yes please. I loved the first 2 movies so a 3rd one would be very welcome. With so many movies taking themselves too seriously these days us fans of lightweight comedies have been long deprived of our fix.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASSSSE!
Im a teenager and all the girls and my school worship Bridget Jones! We all love the second as much as the first and we need another film thats relatable, funny and romantic! Both films 1 and 2 just explain what most of us girls are scared to admit! We quote the films all the time and watch them religously!

Comment by Fhlexy on April 26 12:43

OMG I so disagree!! I think a third movie would be AMAZING!!!
Comment by Jessica Becky on April 29 13:13

Ah, the first film was fantastic, it wrapped everything up so that there was never a need for the second movie. Now they want to bring a 3rd out where Bridget is still undecided between the two men in her life....well that kind of says it all. If she hasn't decided who she wants or loves in 10 years then clearly you can't turn that into a love story. There's nothing romantic about that. The sad thing is all these sequels just discredit the original. So I'm stuck, do I want to see another one to further dispel my romantic notions? It's pretty tough to call, because the 1st was fulfilling but then that awful 2nd one came out and left fans with a feeling of something lacking. I think perhaps if they pull in the fact that Bridget and Darcy split years back and she hasnt seen him, rather than turn her into someone who would sleep with both (despite her horror at what marks ex wife done) and then expect us to believe there is true love at the end then maybe it could work. Oh and bring back Sharon Maguire already. Otherwise, just no!
Comment by Cait on May 13 12:14

yes, why not. The films are great fun and any who think otherwise are over thinking the film. It is a comedy!!! i personally love the films and would love to see what has happened to Mark Darcy, Bridget Jones and Daniel Cleaver!!

Comment by Coco Milne on June 25 22:56

A third with how Mark and Bridget move on to suburban life and kids 7 years on would be hilarious znd the need to put on wieght for the role isn't needed anyway, as Renee never looked overweight anyway. Can't wait if they decide to go ahead. Also anyone that doesn't think the 2nd was a funny as the first must have been watching a wrong film. As sequels go it was brilliant.
