Rihanna to star in The Bodyguard remake?
By Eleanor Young on Friday 25 February 2011
Nearly twenty years after Whitney Huston’s classic flick was released, rumour has it studio bosses are planning a remake of 1992 film The Bodyguard, with songstress Rihanna tipped to land the lead.

It’s thought producers at Warner Brothers have already commissioned a screenplay of the new movie - which could see the leading lady stalked by a fan tracking her on Twitter, Facebook and celebrity websites - and are considering who they would like to star.
Barbadian singer Rihanna, who celebrated her 23rd birthday earlier this week, is said to be frontrunner for the new role, with bosses also reported to be considering singing sensation Beyonce, teen star Miley Cyrus, and country singer Taylor Swift.
Warbling Whitney’s bodyguard, played in the first flick by (a very young looking!) Kevin Costner is set to get a makeover, and it’s thought the story could involve a US soldier, who lands a bodyguard job after retiring from service.

‘The goal is to take a young female singer with global appeal and give her the platform that The Bodyguard did Houston’, movie website Deadline revealed of the flick.
And it could work wonders for whoever lands the lead. Whitney’s fame rocketed to new heights after she starred in the hit film, and The Bodyguard soundtrack remains the best selling movie soundtrack of all time. Phew.

Oh hell no! This is a classic! Why do they feel the need to remake everything? Dallas, Karate Kid, Annie, Beverly Hills... can't they come up with their own ideas anymore?!

Can Rihanna act? I don't find her very interesting when appearing on chat shows for example, I hope she can bring a character to life. Having said that, I LOVE her music!! I think it would have been better to give Rihanna her own vehicle instead of a remake when a lot of people will compare her role to the original, and I think Whitney did a really good job.
