Singer Ashlee Simpson has split from her rocker hubby Pete Wentz after just two and half years of marriage, a rep for the pair confirmed today.

It’s thought Ashlee was the first to instigate proceedings, filing for divorce yesterday, and citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the break-up.

‘They're both really sad. It's a sad ending to something that was really promising,’ a source told People. ‘They're each trying to figure out what this transition is going to be like.’

Ashley and Pete tied the knot in a glittering, Alice in Wonderland-themed ceremony in 2008, and have a two-year-old son, Bronx Mowgli.

‘It's very amicable. They're on very friendly terms and speaking – it's fine,’ the insider added. ‘They've just grown apart. They've been growing apart for quite some time.

‘It's all about [their 2-year-old son] Bronx for them. They're fantastic parents – Pete says she's a great mom, and she says he's a great father.

‘It's about Bronx's care and well-being and happiness for them.’

This is the second Hollywood split in as many days. Yesterday, Jude Law and Sienna Miller confirmed they had called time on their rekindled relationship.
