Christina Aguilera fluffs National Anthem lyrics at Super Bowl

Christina Aguilera at the Super Bowl 2011 - National Anthem error

There are fewer more famous songs in America, but Christina Aguilera still managed to sing the wrong lyrics to the country's National Anthem, as she belted out the iconic song to open Sunday night's Super Bowl.

As 100 million viewers watched on, the 30-year-old superstar sang the incorrect lyrics: 'Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming.'

What she should have sang was: 'Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.'

The wrong lyrics matched an error on Wikipedia – known for not always being accurate, as it is user generated content.

Later apologising, Christina explained; 'I got so lost in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country & the true spirit of it's anthem still came through.'

Twitter watchers weren't convinced though, with many taking to the social networking site to blast the singer's mistake.

So what ?! She is a fantastic singer and may she never forget the words of her songs ;) xx

If you watch any football match and the line-up of them singing nearly all of them get the words wrong
