Katie Holmes is said to be 'very upset' over reports critics walked out of her latest film, The Son of No One, during a screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

Earlier this week, onlookers claimed there was a ‘exodus’ of critics leaving the first showing of the movie ‘well before the end,’ prompting talk Katie’s acting talents weren’t up to scratch.

‘The negative response went beyond the walkouts,’ one insider revealed. ‘One viewer’s attempt to begin applause after the lights came up drew almost no takers.’

Now, director Cassian Elwes has rushed to Katie’s defence, revealing she was ‘very upset’ after hearing the reports.

‘She loves the film and she's great in it,’ he told Us. ‘She's very upset by this attack.’

And far from leaving the screening due to the quality of the film, Elwes said it was technical glitch which led to several people walking out, adding a projectionist accidentally turned the lights on, several scenes before the film had come to an end.

'There wasn't a mass exodus,' Elwes added. 'The people who did see it, liked the film.

‘Despite Katie's few scenes, she was fantastic in the role! We've already received three offers on the film. We're 100 percent behind her and the entire cast's performances in this film.’
