Hit film The Social Network swept the board at Hollywood’s glittering Golden Globe awards last night, winning big with a whopping four awards. British Kings Speech star Colin Firth, and Black Swan beauty Natalie Portman also did well, picking up prestigious best actor and actress prizes.

But despite scooping sought after awards for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Score, and Best Director, David Fincher’s Facebook flick didn’t take home any gongs for acting talent.

Leaving lead actor Jesse Eisenberg disappointed, British actor Colin Firth won the coveted award for Best Actor, for his role in George VI-based movie, The Kings Speech.

And the star was thrilled to receive his prize. ‘Getting through the mid stage of your life with your dignity and judgement intact can be somewhat precarious,’ he joked to the audience during his acceptance.

‘Sometimes all you need a bit of gentle reassurance to keep on track. I'm not sure this could be described as gentle, but right now this is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson.’

Pregnant star Natalie Portmantook home the Best Actress award for psychological ballet thriller, while Melissa Leo and Christian Bale scooped Best Supporting Actor and Actress, for their role in upcoming release The Fighter.

Other big winners on the night included comedy flick The Kids Are All Right, which took home two gongs, and Barney’s Version.

Christina Aguilera’s musical film Burlesque won the Award for Best Song, while Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch both won for hit TV show Glee, which also scooped Best TV Series.
