Christina Aguilera is no stranger to causing controversy. But the songstress outdid even herself earlier this week, when viewers complained in their thousands, outraged at her risqué pre-watershed X Factor performance.

Now the star’s defended her sexy Burlesque routine, revealing the raunchy moves are an ‘art form’.

ITV was inundated with over one thousand complaints, while TV watchdog Ofcom heard from a further thousand disgruntled viewers over the weekend, after Ms Aguilera returned to her X-Tina ways.

The scantly-clad singer took to the stage, shimmying her way through a provocative dance alongside a troupe of skimpily-dressed dancers.

Now, in the wake of the uproar, Christina has spoken out about her raunchy routine, defending the Burlesque style.
‘I don't think there is such a thing as too raunchy when it comes to the art form of burlesque,’ she told the Daily Express.

‘It's very empowering to women to feel confident in their own skin and in their bodies and this represents that.
‘Everyone in the spotlight is judged and there are many opinions out there but I stick true to what I believe in.’

Burlesque is supposed to be an elegant, often humorous form of stiptease and Dita Von Teese has mastered it to a T(ease). This is just plain raunchy and frankly quite vulgar!
Comment by Celine M on December 15 11:07

Love Ya Xtina. I totally Agree :)
You smashed it by the way :D
Comment by Adnan Hanif on December 15 11:15

I found nothing wrong with it. i think it was great
Comment by Elena on December 15 12:35

Nothing against it personally, but, bearing in mind that the show producers are perfectly aware that many children watch the show, do 6 and 7 year olds understand Burlesque? I thought we were supposed to be keeping an eye on the early sexualising of our children, not encouraging it!
Comment by Catherine Baldwin on December 15 12:39

i struggle to see the difference between this and the equally risky routines performed by miss cole? so if they like those what's there to complain about.
Comment by Kelly on December 15 12:41

She always puts on a great show, and this is great outside of the watershed. This was totally wrong for family viewing. Vulgar filming angles as well. I blame the producers of X Factor who should know better.
Comment by Janice on December 15 12:53

It's hilarious how every thing is worth a complaint nowadays. She's dancing and singing in an outfit tailored to promote her new film. Some people really just look for something to complain about. Next people will start complaining about women on tv showing their cleavage....
Comment by L P on December 15 12:54

It speaks volumes about a performer's belief in their talents when they have to resort to soft porn to promote their work. I agree with Catherine wholeheartedly - this performance was totally inappropriate for the x factor's younger viewers. I also agree with Celine - this performance wasn't Burlesque which is far more subtle and witty. She looked like nothing more than the drunk girls you see gyrating up to each other in a nightclub trying to attract male attention and making complete fools of themselves.
Comment by Lou on December 15 12:58

I'm sorry but how does acting like a tart empower women exactly? Think it was all too over the top, it could have been done with a bit of style but not.
Not suitable for this type of show.
Comment by Yvonne on December 15 13:10

Loved it!! I don't see nothing wrong with its just a routine, a dance. Christina did great with the vocals and well with the dance, i wouldn't worry about kids watching this, it has nothing to be alarmed off or shocking, its just a good spectacle of what a performer singer/actress should be.
Comment by john on December 15 13:18

I really think that people complaining about this need to get a grip! how was christina's performance any more sexed up than rhianna & matt singing together?!!!? I dont see anyone complaining about that!
Comment by Mrs.s on December 15 13:42

I agree with LP...and itt's already been done, lots of phone calls to complain about Holly Willoughby's cleavage on 'Dancing on Ice'. Come on people, what IS wrong with you all? I bet you let your kids watch the music channels and probably take them on holiday to beaches where there's topless bathing...is that so different to someone 'performing' a managed number to promote a movie. It's no wonder kids have issues when they get older if their parents are trying to wrap them in cotton wool. Do you turn over from Coronation St or Enders when there's a 'gay' kiss?
Grow up or turn over!!
Comment by Gill on December 15 14:26

WHATS IT GONNA SOLVE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT NOW?!!! Sheesh people are so annoying.
Comment by Christiana on December 15 14:32

Nothing compared to Rhianna's routine. The was so much worse!
Comment by Roxie on December 15 15:23

I do not see what the fuss would be about concerning this performance. Mainly they wiggled their rears. Sort of a aerobics class with less clothing.
Her hair was not the best, perhaps that is something but otherwise this is pretty tame stuff.
Comment by shan L on December 15 16:13

Christina's comments that there is no such thing as too raunchy when it comes to the art form of Burlesque is fair enoungh if we had made the decision to go to see the show. However, we were all simply there to watch the X Factor and many of us were watching with our children, in which case it was too raunchy in my opinion. It felt like it was just an advert to go and see the show and the young X Factor viewers were not taken into consideration at all.
Comment by Serendipity on December 15 17:56

I found Rhianna's performance more offensive personally. Christina was promoting her film "burlesque" (it's in the name people! Meanwhile, Rhianna was dancing in her undies for no reason....!!
Comment by G on December 16 12:18

Maybe if parents would be more concerned about educating their children and monitoring their internet usage instead of shielding them from what they consider 'raunchy'on TV, there wouldn't be so many teenage pregnancies in this country!
