Christine Bleakley opens up on Daybreak failure
By Eleanor Young on Monday 22 November 2010
Daybreak star Christine Bleakley has opened up on the failing show for the first time, revealing she’s still learning the ropes, and has been hurt by the massive backlash.
In her first interview since taking up a spot on the famous morning sofa, the star spoke of the challenges of launching the new show, adding that it came as an ‘absolute shock’ shock when she was sacked by the BBC, for trying to delay a new contract.
Talking of the ‘teething problems’ that have seen ratings sink to as low as 500,000 during the Daybreak’s first six months, she added that they are still working through many of their problems.
‘There are things that don't work, and we'll change them. We have the most magnificent view, but at 6am it's pitch black. We're learning as we go,’ she said.
‘We have to earn our right to be the morning choice.’
Christine also revealed her hurt at the harsh comments the team have received since the show’s launch.
‘People say they have a thick skin but we're all human. You do get upset,’ she said.
But it seems new beau, footballer Frank Lampard has been helping her through the tough times.
‘Frank understands. He's been in the spotlight for years and just gets on with it,’ she said.
What are YOUR thoughts on the current Daybreak format? Are you a fan of Christine and Adrian?

Not a fan of Christine and Adrian, don't think ever will be. Fed up on commenting on things that will never change by ITV. The whole thing is a shambles!! They've even taken some of the yellow screens aways...tut tut....

Nothing wrong with the programme it's Adrian the main problem but itv don't seem to be listening to the public. I don't watch whilst Adrian is on, staying with BBC at the monent.

Also not a fan! It just doesn't work. Early morning tv is now a 'no go' for me!

I am sorry to say that I am not a big fan of daybreak and I loved GMTV. I have tried to get use to Adrian and Christine but alas I have to admit defeat. Adrain comes accross as very cocky and Chrristine is so false. I dont like the new set, but on a more positive note I love Dan, he is so modern, lovely personality and also great on the eye. Perhaps he could present a bit more. There is also too much news on the show. Every half hour is more that enough.

Bleakley and Chiles are useless, who want's to see Mr Cocky and Miss Wag first thing, can think of nothing worse, rubbish.

I stopped watching when GMTV became Daybreak. Christine is lovely to look at so can't think there should be any problem with her. I don't like having to watch Adrian as he looks old and scruffy. I liked the old gang and check occasionaly to see if Dan and Kate are presenting in which case I will watch it. Ultimately, I think the problem is with the show and not the presenters. It was always a bit crap. Have changed over to BBC.

Adrian and Christine are both entertaining presenters and I am glad that they stayed as a team. New shows often take time to take off. I find all this negativity over them nauseating and boring.
Good luck to both of them and I will be watching!

I don't enjoy watching Daybreak when Adrien and Christine are presenting the show,he looks totally bored and she's so false laughing all the time. But love the show when Kate and Dan are presenting it they're so natural and look like they're enjoying themselves.Ialso enjoy Fiona Phillips standing in for Lorraine.

Dont like the new presenters, so watch bbc1. When Kate is presenting i watch but i dont like Dan very much.Kate should've been the main presenter when Fiona left GMTV but trying to have Kate and Emma as main made it wishy washy. Lets have Kate and Ben Shepherd together. I also enjoyed seeing Fiona on Lorraine
